In Cardiff, Commercial, Permission secured

DPP have secured planning approval for a landmark 15 storey hotel scheme in Southampton.

The 15 storey, 268 bedroom hotel scheme designed by HGP Architects, will redevelop a vacant former shopping centre site within the city centre.

The proposals, which will deliver the tallest hotel scheme in Southampton, went through rigorous design development with the local planning authority (“LPA”) and their Design Review Panel to demonstrate the acceptability of a tall building. DPP led discussions with the LPA on the acceptability of an outline application and the appropriateness of a tall building outside of the area identified by the Council for such proposals. DPP also successfully argued that the proposals were consistent with the development plan despite the allocation of the site for retail development.

Speaking about the consent, Director, Gareth Hooper said:

We are delighted to have secured this consent for what will be a landmark scheme, complimenting the regeneration of this part of the city. The design team worked hard with the Council to provide the certainty required to support a tall building in outline only, which was important for the project in order to provide flexibility to end users.
