Principal Planner

Laura joined the Newcastle office of DPP as a Principal Planner in September 2024 and has a decade of experience in the planning industry, most recently as Principal Planner at a private consultancy in Leeds, where she worked for seven years on a variety of commercial, retail, and residential sites across the UK, notably managing three new Garden Suburb EIA sites in Calderdale and Kirklees. Previous to that, Laura spent three years as Senior Planner for an Essex/Cambridgeshire based consultancy. She has been MRTPI Chartered since 2015 and is a Member of the North-East Young Planners.

During her time with DPP Laura have been involved in a wide variety of projects spanning numerous sectors and geographical locations. These include new and replacement schools in Stockton on Tees, Durham and Gateshead, commercial development proposals in Newcastle and County Durham, student accommodation schemes, affordable housing projects, conversion of a Grade II listed Hall into residential apartments in Northumberland and overseeing Appeals work.

Laura has a strong track record of project management, mentoring junior staff members and successfully negotiating with planning authorities and key stakeholders to deliver viable, timely consents, working proactively to get proposals through the approval process without any unnecessary delay. Throughout her career, Laura has developed good working relationships with key officers in local Councils across the North-East and Yorkshire Regions to maintain a collaborative relationship and effective negotiation to secure planning approvals.
