Project Description

Mixed Use Regeneration

Value

£41m

Brett Wharf, Gateshead Quayside

DPP were appointed to prepare, submit and manage a planning application and Environmental Impact Assessment for the redevelopment of the former Brett Oils site on Gateshead Quayside.
The approved scheme will support the ongoing regeneration of the Gateshead Quayside. Once complete the scheme will deliver two buildings providing 269 residential apartments for private rent with ground floor office and commercial space as well as parking and new public realm which will open up the currently inaccessible riverside.

DPP secured planning consent within the 16-week determination period and gained unanimous approval at planning committee.
The development site has a number of constraints, including flood risk, contamination and heritage. Therefore, from an early stage and throughout the design development DPP coordinated pre-application discussions with Gateshead Council and statutory consultees, including Historic England and the Environment Agency in order to overcome these constraints. DPP prepared and managed the planning application, including preparation of the Environmental Impact Assessment, with technical input from the project team, and liaised closely with the LPA throughout the determination process to secure a positive recommendation.

DPP are continuing to provide aftercare services in respect of ongoing planning advice and managing the discharge of condition process.
