DPP were appointed to provide planning services in respect of proposals for a replacement leisure centre in Knaresborough which would replace the current centre which is no longer fit for purpose. The new centre will deliver significantly enhanced sporting and leisure facilities.  

The site has a number of constraints, including; a number a mature trees, being in the conservation area and close to heritage assets. The centre also had to be carefully planned to enable the existing facilities to remain open during construction.

ACHIEVEMENTS

DPP were responsible for co-ordinating and managing the planning application process and obtained unanimous approval at planning committee in February 2022.   

DPP engaged in pre-application discussions with the LPA and statutory consultees from an early stage to discuss different options for the proposals and key constraints. Once a preferred option was selected, DPP prepared the detailed planning application submission and managed the application through to decision stage. During determination, DPP liaised closely with the LPA and statutory consultees, including Sport England, the conservation officer and Arboricultural officer to overcome their objections.
