Project Description

Mixed-used sustainable urban extension.

Howden (How-G), East Riding

DPP, together with JG Hatcliffe Property & Planning and Howdens Joinery, have successfully worked together to bring forward this site through the Local Plan Update process.

DPP worked with the team to prepare various promotional documents to present to the East Riding of Yorkshire Council. Initially the team put forward the case for a mixed-used sustainable urban extension to the north east of Howden as part of the Councils Issues and Options exercise which identified a number of potential strategic locations to meet the housing need for the Goole and Humberhead Levels sub-area as a result of the proposed deletion of the housing allocations in Goole due to flood risk issues. This was followed by the preparation of a masterplan showing how the site could be developed and the submission to the Council, as part of the Call for Sites exercise, of a suite of technical reports that demonstrated that the site was available for development at the point in time envisaged, that the site was suitable for the proposed development and that the site was deliverable and not constrained. The team were successful, and the site is now a proposed allocated in the draft Local Plan Update document and is known as HOW-G. Throughout this period the team engaged with the Council, statutory consultees and Howden Town Council in order to ascertain the issues affecting the community and the site and have evolved the masterplan accordingly. The team have continued to support the allocation of the site through the Regulation 18 and Regulation 19 draft version of the Local Plan Update.

Achievements

DPP successfully submitted representations and promotional material to the Council and worked closely with them and Howden Town Council which resulted in the site being proposed as an allocation in the draft Local Plan Update document under Policy HOW-G for mixed-use development.
