In Leeds, Permission secured, Residential

DPP have secured permission for the erection of an extra care living scheme in Guisborough.

Acting on behalf of Ryedale Estates Ltd, DPP’s Leeds office secured permission for 12 bungalows and 71 apartments, which will be operated by Housing 21 and will help address the current shortage of specialist accommodation for the elderly.

Despite the site being allocated for employment use, DPP were able to persuade the local authority that the development of the site would not materially affect the wider supply of employment land in the Borough, and that the development would give rise to significant benefits through boosting the supply of specialist housing for older people.

Chris Megson, Senior Planner in the Leeds office, said:

As a native of Guisborough, I’m particularly pleased to have assisted with this project. The development will significantly boost the provision of specialist accommodation for the elderly in Guisborough and Cleveland. Additionally, the scheme will complete the redevelopment of the former Guisborough Foundry site. Following recent successes in York and Leeds, the grant of permission at Guisborough continues the Leeds’ office great start to 2022.
