In Cardiff, Education

DPP is proud to be supporting Coleg Gwent, alongside Willmott Dixon, Stride Treglown and AtkinsRealis, in the redevelopment of the Coleg Gwent Crosskeys Campus.

Our role has included securing Hybrid Planning Permission working closely with Caerphilly Borough County Council for the redevelopment of the campus, comprising full planning permission for Phase 1 and outline consent for Phases 2 to 4.

Phase 1 includes the construction of a new three-storey teaching building and single-storey energy centre, together with associated access, parking and landscaping works. The outline consent establishes a framework for the phased demolition and replacement of existing buildings, facilitating the delivery of modern educational facilities across the wider campus.

The redevelopment is driven by Coleg Gwent’s ambitious Net Zero Carbon Masterplan, which aims to transform the campus and achieve net zero carbon in operation. The phased redevelopment will replace ageing buildings that no longer meet modern educational and sustainability requirements, creating a high-quality and learning environment for future generations.

Beyond the educational benefits, the project will strengthen the campus’s relationship with the surrounding community, delivering a more attractive and accessible interface with Risca Road.

Following the discharge of all pre-commencement planning conditions for Phase 1, it is fantastic to see works now underway on site, with Willmott Dixon bringing these proposals to life.

Tom Molyneux-Wright, Associate Director at DPP, said:

This has been a great project to be involved in, particularly as it is so close to home. We’ve enjoyed a positive and collaborative working relationship with officers at Caerphilly County Borough Council from the outset, helping to bring forward a scheme that will deliver significant benefits for students and the wider community. It’s fantastic to see works now underway, and we look forward to supporting Coleg Gwent as future phases come forward.
