In Awards, Healthcare, Newcastle

DPP is excited to be attending this year’s RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence, taking place tonight.

This year, DPP is a finalist in the Excellence in Planning for Health and Wellbeing category for the Day Treatment Centre in Newcastle. Jen Patterson and Jo Robison are attending the awards dinner taking place in London and we are keeping everything crossed for a successful outcome.

These national awards celebrate the best plans, people and projects and the positive contribution planning professionals make to communities.  The Day Treatment Centre showcases how the planning system can respond quickly (including to a pandemic!) and its role unlocking essential infrastructure and health services.

The Day Treatment Centre was constructed using Emergency Permitted Development Rights available to health bodies during the Covid-19 Pandemic, and subsequently its permanent retention was secured by way of a full planning application.  Collaborative and constructive working amongst the client team and with the LPA, Newcastle City Council, was key to the success of this project.

Speaking about the short-listing, Jen Patterson, Associate Director at DPP who led the project said:

I’m over the moon that the Day Treatment Centre is a finalist for the RTPI National Awards for Planning Excellence. It was a true team effort from all parties and it is thoroughly deserving of its place in this category.  The project utilised numerous aspects of planning and really demonstrates the best of the planning system, when flexibility is essential to making a difference in people’s lives.
