In Leeds, Student Accommodation

DPP has secured permission on behalf of Malik Group Holdings Ltd for the conversion of a former office building on East Parade in Leeds City Centre to 106 student apartments.

Designed by C49 Architecture, the scheme will include a sensitive infill extension to the rear of the building and a mix of amenity spaces such as study rooms, a gym, lounges and private dining areas.

The scheme will also feature a generous amount of external amenity space located within the existing courtyards. In securing a delegated approval, DPP worked closely with the client, design team and the Local Planning Authority successfully addressing concerns relating to internal amenity, noise from a nearby entertainment venue, design, the loss of the employment space and flood risk. The scheme is due to be delivered for the 2025/26 academic year and will add further high-quality student accommodation within the Innovation Arc and the Leeds City Centre Conservation Area.

Speaking about the consent, David Smith, Director at DPP said

We are delighted to secure this permission for Malik Group Holdings Ltd following positive engagement with Leeds City Council’s planning department. The scheme will secure the future viable use for this former office building and provide further high-quality student housing in the city centre. We worked closely with the client and design team to respond to consultee comments and secure a viable permission.
