Project Description

EV Charging Hub

Value

Electric Vehicle Charging Hub – Grundon Waste Management

DPP were instructed early on for this project to establish the likely hurdles of achieving planning permission for an ultra-rapid vehicle charging hub on the site. The proposal seeks to utilise energy from the adjoining energy from waste power plant to power 8 charging outlets providing 16 spaces for fleet vehicles.

DPP identified one of the key constraints of the site would be around its location within the Green Belt. Having been instructed to proceed with pre-application discussions and formal planning application to Slough Borough Council, DPP prepared a case to the Authority and successfully argued that established that, if the Authority did not consider this to be appropriate development in the Green Belt, which was the first presumption, then in the alternative, there were very clear special circumstances which justified the proposed development. Furthermore, DPP were able to demonstrate clear understanding of the need for ultra-rapid charging hubs and the barriers to the carbon neutral objectives as well as the energy and carbon benefits of this particular proposal being located next to the energy source.

DPP gained planning permission on behalf of Grundon Waste Management & SSE under delegated powers and work is currently underway to discharge pre-commencement conditions.
