Acting on behalf of Interserve Construction Ltd on behalf of the Secretary of State for Education, DPP has secured planning approval for the development of a Special Education Needs Academy in Acklam, Middlesbrough.
Design by Howarth Litchfield, the school will accommodate 84 primary school children with severe learning difficulties and physical/medical needs, replacing existing temporary accommodation elsewhere in Middlesbrough, which is nearing capacity. As demand for places increases, the planning consent means that fewer children are required to travel outside of Middlesbrough for their education needs.
DPP managed the planning process for the project from initial pre-application stage through to consent. Prior to submission of the application, DPP organised a public consultation on the proposals, the feedback from which informed the evolution of the scheme. Crucially, to secure consent, DPP demonstrated that that the development would bring significant economic, social and environmental benefits, outweighing the loss of existing public open space.
Speaking about the consent, Associate Director Kayleigh Dixon said:
