DPP Planning is delighted to announce the appointment of James Thomas as a Senior Planner at our Newcastle office.
James joins DPP with a breadth of planning experience in the North East across both the public and private sectors. After completing an undergraduate degree in Human Geography, he spent six months studying urban planning at Middle Tennessee State University, then took a master’s degree in the subject at Newcastle University.
Since then, he has worked as an Assistant Project Manager at Newcastle Cathedral, a position he picked up through the National Lottery Heritage Fund and more recently was a Planning Consultant at Cundall. Here he worked on countless projects across the region, one of which was St Michael’s Church in Byker. James helped turn what was formerly a derelict Grade II* listed church into a vibrant community hub for events and local activities. The project went on to gain national recognition, as the church was removed from Historic England’s Heritage at Risk Register, helping to secure its long-term future.
Gareth Hooper, CEO at DPP said: “We’re delighted to welcome James on to our Newcastle team. His experience and expertise are clear for all to see and, thanks to his involvement in local projects across the region, he has a great understanding of the area’s planning context, which is going to make him a very valuable asset to us.
“This appointment again highlights DPP’s status as one of the most attractive consultancies for the industry’s top talent, as well as underlining our commitment to investing in the region’s most promising prospects. Once again, welcome on board James, we can’t wait to see what you achieve with us.”
