On behalf of Integrated Health Projects (IHP), the joint venture between VINCI Building and Sir Robert McAlpine acting for York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, DPP was appointed to support a series of works to upgrade Scarborough General Hospital.
The works include the demolition of the existing pathology building and the erection of a new building to accommodate pathology and ophthalmology services, together with associated plant and landscaping. A full planning application was submitted to secure consent for the new building which was supported by a range of supporting information relating to issues of drainage, ecology and transport.
In addition, a minor planning application was submitted for removal of a number of outdated structures and provision of supporting infrastructure. Consent for certain demolition works was also achieved via the Prior Approval process.
Collectively, the proposed development will deliver significant benefits, including the removal of outdated infrastructure, the resolution of identified safety and compliance risks, and the provision of modern, fit-for-purpose clinical accommodation. The scheme will support the efficient relocation of key services, improve patient experience and staff working conditions, and enhance the long-term safety, sustainability, and resilience of Scarborough General Hospital. Overall, the proposals represent an essential investment in local healthcare infrastructure and the continued delivery of high-quality NHS services.
The development of the proposals, achieved through a collaborative effort between the applicant, local authorities, and stakeholders, reflects our shared vision to meet the community’s aspirations, ultimately resulting in planning permission for all applications.
Helen Marks, Director at DPP said:
Delighted to have supported Integrated Health Projects (IHP), acting for York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust on this project to secure much improved facilities for Scarborough Hospital. Significantly, the advice provided by DPP with regards the application of permitted development rights enabled some elements of the project to progress in a very efficient and timely manner, resulting in cost savings for the client.
