DPP have submitted a full planning application for the redevelopment of land adjacent to Craven Park in East Hull to create a multi-million pound sports village and over 12,000sqm of floorspace on behalf of Hull Kingston Rovers Rugby League Team, who currently sit top of the Betfred Super League Table.
This flagship scheme for Hull and Rugby League nationally, will create three and a half new purpose built training pitches, a club hub for the first team, a new fan zone area, offices for Hull KR Foundation and over 12,000sqm of commercial space to provide shops, cafes, gym and a padel club on a brownfield site adjacent to Hull KR’s Craven Park Stadium.
The development will provide world class training facilities for Hull KR to enable their continued success on the pitch alongside facilities for the community to increase sports participation in the local community. The provision of refurbished office space for the Hull KR Foundation will also provide a dedicated space for them to grow their outreach programmes tackling food poverty, knife crime, mental health, and skills.
In addition to this, 12,000sqm of commercial space is proposed which will include a food store, homewares store, cafes, a gym, padel club, and spaces for smaller businesses. These uses will help to fund the regeneration of this brownfield site that has sat underutilised for over 15 years as well as creating valuable jobs and opportunities for local residents.
DPP began providing strategic advice for Hull KR in 2023 and have liaised with the project team since then to determine the best use and layout for the site, the club and the community. Over that period, DPP have engaged with Hull City Council for pre-application discussions, presented the proposals to planning committee members, and been involved with discussions with key stakeholders in the area.
DPP look forward to progressing this application through the planning process and hearing the views of the local community and consultees. Comments on the application can be made online via Hull City Council’s website.
The project team includes Corstorphine & Wright, Ares Landscape Design, Desco, Shaw Stephens, Local Transport Projects and Social PR.
Speaking about the application submission, Michelle Davies, Director in DPP’s Leeds office said:
We are thrilled to have supported Hull Kingston Rovers in developing this scheme over the last two years and expanding our own portfolio of sport and leisure schemes with a number of active projects up and down the Country. We have had positive pre-application engagement with Hull City Council and other stakeholders and look forward to now progressing the application through to a positive determination.
