On behalf of Triple Jersey Limited, DPP have secured planning consent for the redevelopment of a B&M store in Burnage, Manchester for the creation of 115 homes.
This scheme, designed by STEN Architecture, will revitalise a 1.64-hectare site, transforming it into a vibrant community. The development will feature high-quality Build to Rent housing, four amenity green spaces and landscaping breathing new life into the area. The site is located in close walking distance to Mauldeth Road train station providing regular services to central Manchester and other locations.
Key features of the development include much needed two, three and four-bedroom homes and apartments suitable for families and offering a stable long-term rental option. The project will achieve strong placemaking values through high-quality architecture, shared amenity spaces for residents to enjoy and a distinctive feature building that will front onto Kingsway, a prominent street in the neighbourhood.
We overcame a significant number of public objections particularly in relation to traffic impacts and the loss of the B&M and successfully convinced the council that the overwhelming benefits of boosting local housing supply outweigh concerns regarding loss of the store. We also coordinated with consultants for the submission of additional detailed highways documents which the Council’s highways team agreed demonstrated that parking and congestion concerns were unwarranted.
Michelle Davies, Director at DPP said
We are delighted to have secured this consent, which will transform a key site within the neighbourhood of Burnage and make a significant contribution towards meeting the housing needs of the community. This scheme aligns perfectly with recent announcements from the Government about unlocking housing in high-potential locations near transport hubs and the development will deliver significant community benefits, including affordable housing.
We are pleased to have collaborated to achieve a high-quality scheme that responds well to the site after establishing a positive working relationship with the council and we are look forward to seeing the transformation take place.
The DPP team included Michelle Davies, Oliver Corbett, Chris Wallace and Andison Iu.
