Project Description

New Education Academy

West Coventry Academy

DPP successfully secured planning permission for a significant new education academy in the West Midlands, which is part of the Government’s 10-year school rebuilding programme.

West Coventry Academy will benefit from a 38.4M rebuild after planning application produced by DPP in partnership with project contractor Bowmer+Kirkland was approved by Coventry City Council in August 2021.

The academy will undergo a major transformation, with new buildings including the addition of a state-of-the-art sports hall and outdoor facilities. The rebuild also includes a new main entrance to the site and improvements to parking and coach drop off/ pick up locations.

Following a period of pre-application consultation with the LPA led by DPP, and engagement with local stakeholders, the application was submitted and approved within the 13-week statutory determination period and without pre-commencement condition requirements to ensure work could start on site without delay.

Alongside the Design Team, DPP worked closely with the LPA and local community throughout the planning process to ensure the scheme was approved to schedule. This includes design changes to address number of concerns raised by a small number of nearby residents. As a result, ground was broken at the end of September 2021, in a ceremony attended by Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi.
