DPP were instructed by VITA 2 Carrie Ltd and Barker and Stonehouse Ltd to prepare, submit, and manage a full planning application for the demolition of the former Barker & Stonehouse building, the change of use of the Strawberry House for use as a student accommodation, the erection of a purpose-built student accommodation comprising 260 units, and associated infrastructure and landscape works.

The proposal will redevelop a vacant site for the delivery of a modern, high quality PBSA scheme in a highly sustainable location. The scheme will help meet the existing need for student accommodation in the City and expand Vita’s existing popular student offer in the City, by providing 260 bedrooms spread across 6 floors. It will not only provide much needed student bedrooms, but also generous amenity space for its residents both internally and externally.

Achievement

DPP successfully prepared and coordinated a public consultation event to allow nearby residents and local councillors to find out more about the scheme and ask the client team any questions. DPP subsequently prepared a Statement of Community Involvement, summarising the consultation and the comments received.

DPP then prepared a Planning Statement and submitted the application in November 2023 before securing planning approval at committee. Following approval, DPP have been retained to provide planning advice and to manage the discharge of condition process.
