DPP were instructed to submit a planning application for the development of a 150 pitch luxury lodge and static caravan holiday park on part of Allerthorpe Golf Club. The proposals also included the reintroduction of the existing golf course and clubhouse as well as improvements to the landscape and environmental infrastructure of the site.  

The application proved challenging given the level of local opposition towards the proposal. 

ACHIEVEMENTS

DPP carried out initial discussions with the LPA prior to the submission of a formal planning application in order to ascertain the documents that would be required to allow the planning authority to approve the scheme.  

A planning application was submitted and received the full support of officers who recommended that the application be approved. Despite this recommendation the application was refused by members at planning committee. Members refused the application on the grounds that by virtue of its size and scale, the proposed development would be inappropriate for the location of the site and would therefore have a significant adverse impact on the character and appearance of the area.  

DPP appealed the decision and formed part of a project team that presented evidence at a Public Inquiry. DPP successfully demonstrated that the development constituted sustainable development; that it assisted in the expansion and diversification of the East Riding visitor economy; that the proposals addressed an identified deficiency in tourist accommodation within the East Riding; and that the proposed development was of an appropriate scale and size for its location.  

The Inspector overturned the LPA decision and granted planning permission in June 2017
