Project Description
Clinical teaching space
University School of Healthcare, Cardiff University
DPP were appointed by Cardiff University to submit a planning application for the change of use of Blocks 2 and 4 of the former DWP site to be used as higher education facilities for the University’s School of Healthcare.
The development will repurpose a vacant office site into clinical teaching spaces, practical rooms, seminar and tutorial rooms and mock theatres for students. The development will also reinstate a disused pedestrian path allowing for better access from the site to the University Hospital. These changes will provide students with high quality facilities in a more suitable location adjacent to the University Hospital, whilst also enhancing accessibility of the site and act to encourage more sustainable journeys.
Achievements
To date, DPP have guided the University in assessing the strategic planning options for the site. DPP have assisted in the organisation of public consultation with local residents and councillors in advance of the planning application.
DPP also actively lead discussions and the coordination of consultants to ensure documents were prepared for the submission of the planning application in line with Cardiff University’s programme.
Post submission, DPP worked closely alongside the client team and the Local Planning Authority, overcoming both highways and landscaping comments raised to secure a planning consent for this development proposal.
