BRIGHTON STREET HULL
Working on behalf of Lidl GmbH UK Ltd, DPP submitted a Full planning application in 2016 for an off-site replacement Lidl store at Brighton Road Hull. The site was a former vacant car garage site, adjacent to Hessle Road centre. The store is to be a replacement for the existing Lidl store, immediately opposite, which is now severely constrained in terms of Lidl’s offer and customer expectations.
The site is located in an edge-of-centre location and is in real need of re-development having lain vacant for a number of years. With the re-letting of the existing store, it is hoped that this development will further add to the vitality of the local centre.
DPP gained planning consent and were successful in arguing the case of this to be classed as an edge-of-centre site, despite initial resistance. A full sequential assessment was undertaken and it was agreed with the Council that an impact assessment would not be necessary.
