Proposal for a New Primary School and Nursery at land off Love Lane, Aveley, Thurrock
Welcome to our public consultation page for the exciting proposals for a new Primary School and Nursery at land off Love Lane, Aveley, Thurrock.
DPP Planning are preparing to submit a planning application for the proposed development to Thurrock Borough Council. The proposals will involve the erection of a new 420-place primary school and 52-place nursery (class F1) with outdoor sports area, access, parking, landscaping and drainage at the site.
The application is being submitted on behalf of Eco Modular Buildings, who are the contractor who will be constructing the school on behalf of the Department for Education who are funding the school, and the REAch2 Academy Trust who will operate the school once complete.
For more information on REAch2 Academy Trust, please visit their website at www.reach2.org.
Undertaking public consultation with local residents in advance of submitting a planning application is an important part of the process for the applicants and allows members of the public and the local community to engage with the vision for the site and to provide valuable feedback on the proposals.
The site is located approximately 750m south-west of the High Street in Aveley. It lies to the north-west of Gravs and north of the A13 which runs in a broad east-west direction. The site extends to approximately 1.8ha and comprises open fields and an existing public footpath (which will be diverted around the site as part of the proposed development).
The site provides an ideal opportunity for the provision of a new educational facility, next to an existing residential area and in an area where there is an urgent need for additional school places. An aerial image of the site is shown below:
The proposal is to erect a new two storey school building and nursery. The new school will provide a modern teaching environment that accommodates 420 primary school children and 52 nursery school children, and the proposal with also offer a number of external play areas for the students including:
– Two multi-use games area courts (MUGAs);
– Two large grass pitches;
– Hard-standing play areas; and
– Soft informal play areas.
The MUGA courts will be located to the west of the school building, whilst the remaining playing fields are located to the south, in the centre and to the east portions of the site. A habitat area will be provided to the south and west of the MUGA courts.
The principal access to the school will be from Love Lane to the east. This will be for vehicles and includes access to car parking and drop-off/pick-up facilities. A network of footpaths are proposed alongside the new access road leading into the site and a footpath leading from this into the school grounds from the east. The existing footpath which runs through the site will be re-routed around the school site to ensure safety for pupils.
A number of drop-off/pick-up bays are proposed to the north of the school building in front of the main school entrance. To the west of this entrance area, 36 standard car parking bays are proposed, as well as 2 accessible parking spaces, cycle parking delivery parking bays and a refuse area.
