DPP are delighted to have secured unanimous approval at Leeds City Council’s City Plans Panel for an outline planning application to deliver Leeds Beckett University’s School of the Built Environment, Engineering and Computing (‘BEEC’)

The development will co-locate the various departments of the School, which are currently spread across 4 existing buildings across the university’s wider estate, into a purpose-built ‘Home for BEEC’ which will sit at the heart of the Leeds Innovation Arc and the City Council’s Woodhouse Gateway public realm improvements masterplan.

The scheme will deliver numerous sustainable benefits including enhanced public realm and landscaping, a zero-car approach to transport that prioritises pedestrians, cyclists and public transport (whilst also replacing an existing surface car-park), and the scheme aims to achieve BREEAM Excellent.

Oliver Corbett Associate Director at DPP said:

As a Human Geography and Planning graduate of the School of BEEC, I am especially proud to have secured this consent on behalf of Leeds Beckett University. The scheme will bring about a sustainable, high-quality development on a key civic site in the centre of Leeds which has remained undeveloped for over 80 years.

DPP are looking forward to supporting the University as they progress the scheme in the coming years, which will help to build the careers of future generations of Town Planners and all other professions supported by the School.

The DPP team included Michelle Davies,  Oliver Corbett,  Chris Wallace and Anna Downey.
