DPP Planning is delighted to announce that two projects involving its teams have been shortlisted for Commercial Development of the Year in the Insider North East Property Awards 2026.
The awards are designed to showcase and recognise the outstanding developments, firms and individuals from across the region’s property sector over the last 12 months.
The first project shortlisted for the award is the transformation of the former Farringdon Hall Police Station into a 32,000sq ft retail park. Developed by Almscliffe Dhesi, DPP helped secure permission for the development in June 2023, with the application receiving unanimous approval at the planning committee and praised for its long-term impact in revitalising the area.
DPP undertook pre-application discussions with the Local Planning Authority during the early stages of the design process to ensure key requirements were considered for the application. This involved discussing the scope for the retail impact assessment and town centre sequential assessment, as well as resolving highway and biodiversity net gain requirements. The development was completed last year, and the site is now fully-let with occupiers including B&M, Greggs and a Costs Drive-Thru, having created 100 jobs in the process.
The Market Pavilion in Blyth, is also shortlisted for the award. The project was delivered for Northumberland County Council with FaulknerBrowns as lead architect. The pavilion was built using modern construction methods, cutting‑edge digital tools and advanced modelling software, resulting in a high‑quality building that was delivered efficiently and successfully.
