Project Description

New data centre

Durham University Data Centre

On behalf of Durham University, DPP submitted Section 73 and Reserved Matters planning applications to amend the outline Aykley Heads Masterplan consent to accommodate a new Data Centre and provide reserved matters (design, access and landscaping) details of this.

Whilst not only generating new jobs and attracting businesses to the region, the scheme will enhance Durham University’s and the City’s position as a global leader in research, support education and skills development in technology, and inspire young people through regional engagement activities

Achievements

Throughout the applications, DPP coordinated and managed the pre-application, public consultation and determination stages, and prepared and submitted Planning Statements and a Statements of Community Involvement to support the plans packs for each application.

As part of the part of the pre-application discussions, in this instance DPP were able to demonstrate that as the Data Centre would facilitate research and development of electrical processing/operations, it would fall neatly into part (ii) of use class E(g) as “research and development of products or processes”.
