In Leisure, Newcastle, Permission secured

DPP has secured planning permission for a new cinema in Portland Park, Ashington.

Designed by GT3 Architects, the development will provide a new cinema and leisure space for Ashington residents.

The development forms part of the £36 million Ashington Regeneration Programme to grow, renew, and connect Ashington Town Centre, securing investment and creating a new leisure destination in the area to pave the way for the delivery of a new high-quality cinema complex – accommodating five cinema screens, with ancillary leisure space, and two restaurant units. The ancillary leisure space is to accommodate an indoor competitive games and entertainment area, and has been intricately designed to offer flexibility. The new cinema is to be run and operated by REEL Cinemas.

DPP has engaged with Northumberland County Council throughout the planning application process and successfully achieved planning permission earlier this month, following planning committee in May. We look forward to working with Advance Northumberland and the wider team to support the delivery of this new public-facing focal point for the regeneration programme.

The new Portland Park Cinema and restaurants project led by Advance Northumberland,  is set to begin construction later this year following recent planning approval.

The programme is funded by UK Government including through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the County Council, North East Combined Authority and Advance Northumberland.
