In Awards, Leeds

DPP’s Leeds office have been shortlisted for the Consultancy of the Year Award at the Insider Yorkshire Property Awards. The awards celebrate the companies and projects that have raised the bar across commercial and residential real estate, with shortlists and winners chosen by a panel of experts with decades of experience working within the sector.

The shortlisting reflects the Leeds team’s role as planning consultant on a number of key projects in the Yorkshire region over the past 12 months.  This included the redevelopment of The Core Shopping Centre in Leeds City Centre on behalf of Fusion Global Management Ltd and Afas The Core Ltd which proposes new purpose-built student accommodation. DPP led extensive pre-application discussions with Leeds City Council from early 2022 through careful negotiations with officers, as well as presentations and discussions with Members of Leeds Plans Panel (Planning Committee), DPP have been able to agree a building design on a sensitive site with the Council at pre-application stage, minimising the risk in progressing the project to full application stage. Planning permission was granted in May 2025 and demolition has begun. This is a key site in Leeds City Centre and one which has been significantly underutilised for many years after suffering from increasing vacancies a will cease the opportunity with a regenerative and demand-led scheme, in proximity to sustainable travel options, city centre amenities and the University campuses.

Another highlighted project is the proposed new urban extension in Howden. This involved extensive submissions to the East Riding Local Plan process where the site is now included as an allocation in the recently adopted Local Plan Update. Simultaneously, DPP ran a successful Hybrid Planning application with a full Environmental Impact Assessment which was permitted in January 2024. The enabling works contract was issued in 2024 and enabling works (estimated cost of around £1.5million) started in Autumn 2024 which are ongoing. At the same time, DPP has been undertaking the discharge of conditions work to ensure that a start on site can be commenced in September 2025 in line with the client’s programme.

As well as the project success, DPP’s Leeds team have been involved in fundraising over the past few of years and in the last year, raising over £4,000 for charity Mind through various fundraising initiatives, including a Charity Football Tournament, as well as charity walks, bake sales and raffles.

The event will be held at New Dock Hall on 18th September 2025 where DPP will be in attendance and hope to take the win!
