DPP are delighted that four of their projects as well as two clients have been shortlisted in the Education Building Wales Awards which take place this week.
Cardiff University’s Abacws, and Centre for Student Life projects, both of which DPP acted as planning consultants on, are shortlisted for the Project of the Year – Colleges & Universities category. Both transformational projects, the Centre for Student Life was the first building constructed in the Civic centre for 35 years. It’s grand colonnade is already established as a Cardiff landmark and user feedback has been exceptional. The Abacws building brought together two schools into an inspirational space that further evolves the University’s growing estate.
In the Project of the Year – Schools category, DPP projects Hirwaun Primary School, Pencoedtre High School are both shortlisted. Working with Morgan Sindall, planning consent for Hirwaun Primary School was delivered in under 12 weeks to ensure the project could meet the challenging program required to meet the school’s transition. Pencoedtre High School, delivered by Bouygues, was one of two secondary schools DPP delivered for the Vale of Glamorgan Council as part of the Barry Secondary learning Community, which has transformed the education of secondary students in the town.
As well as the four shortlisted projects, two of the three nominated parties for the Client of the Year category, Cardiff University and Coleg Y Cymoedd, are clients of DPP.
Speaking about the dominations, DPP CEO Gareth Hooper, who led all four of the nominated projects, said:
We are delighted to see so many of our education projects and clients shortlisted. As a business, we are proud to be delivering projects transforming education estates across the UK, but it is particularly pleasing to see our efforts recognised in Wales.
We wish all the shortlisted projects and clients the best of luck and look forward to celebrating the huge transformation taking place in our education estates.
