Redevelopment of Holy Trinity Church of England Academy, Rothwell

Welcome to our public consultation page for a proposed redevelopment of Holy Trinity Church of England Academy, Rothwell.

DPP Planning are preparing a planning an application on behalf of Bowmer + Kirkland (on behalf of the Department for Education).

Undertaking public consultation with local residents and businesses in advance of submitting a planning application is an important part of the planning process. It allows members of the public and the local community to engage with the Applicant’s proposed vision for the site and to provide valuable feedback on the proposals.

Site Description

The site lies to the south of Queensway in the town of Rothwell and is located approximately 6.55km from Leeds city centre. The site is bound in all directions by residential streets. Queensway is to the north with Orchard Way and Churchfield Road situated to the east and south respectively. The western boundary is directly bound by mature trees beyond which lies the residential street of Churchfield Lane.

The application site is indicated in the aerial image below:

Proposed Development

The proposal is to erect a replacement two storey school building to enable Holy Trinity to provide a modern teaching environment for pupils, and that is eco-friendly to minimise operational costs. Although this development is to be funded by the Department for Education, and delivered by Bowmer + Kirkland, the school will continue to be administered by ‘Abbey Multi Academy Trust’. Access will be provided from the north of the site via Queensway.

The proposal will also offer a number of external play areas for the students including:

– A multi-use games area courts (MUGA);

– A large grass pitch;

– Hard-standing play areas; and

– Soft informal play areas.

This provision will also be complimented by vehicular and cycle parking, a habitat area and wildflower/meadow planting alongside other landscaping.

The MUGA court and playing field will be located to the east of the school building, whilst the remaining hard-standing play areas are located to the south. The habitat area will be provided to the west of the site.

15 standard car parking bays are proposed, as well as 1 accessible parking space.
