The Proposal

The Breast Care units in Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB) are some of the busiest in Wales, seeing over 5000 patients a year; with around 500 cancers being diagnosed each year.

To improve the service to patients with all breast conditions Aneurin Bevan Health Board are building a ‘Centre of Excellence’ at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr. It is planned that every breast care patient, male or female, has the best possible state of the art care when they come to the unit; as well as a good experience of the environment they will be in.

The new unit will provide the best facilities for patients. These will be:

  • dedicated diagnostic,
  • treatment and counselling rooms,
  • designed to enable faster diagnosis,
  • treatment and follow-up care.

The proposed building will be constructed above the existing car park on in the north east corner of the site. Covering an area of 1,100 sqm, the building will be single storey but built on stilts.

The building will reflect the design of the main hospital building in terms of its finish.

Proposed development at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr, Ystrad Mynach, Caerphilly

We give notice that the Aneurin Bevan Health Board is intending to apply for planning permission to Caerphilly County Borough Council for the following development:

“Outline application with all matters to be determined except landscaping for a proposed dedicated Unified Breast Unit building and associated works at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr, Ystrad Mynach.”

Prior to formal submission to the Local Planning Authority and in accordance with the requirements set out in Part 1A of the Town & Country Planning (Development Management Procedure) (Wales) Order 2016, the proposal will be subject to a 28-day pre-application consultation.

All relevant drawings, reports and supplementary supporting documents are made available for inspection and review below.

Anyone who wishes to make representations about this proposed development must do so by the 13th May 2020.
