On behalf of Ashcourt Contracts Ltd, DPP was appointed to coordinate and prepare a Major Planning Application for the construction of a purpose-built student accommodation scheme comprising of 198 units. The site was a former scrap yard adjacent to the Scheduled Monument of St. Mary Magdalene Chapel and located within the Durham City Conservation Area, near to the Durham Cathedral and Castle World Heritage Site and adjacent to the Green Belt and Area of High Landscape Value boundary.

DPP successfully prepared and co-ordinated the information required to accompany the planning application and managed the application through to decision. DPP also submitted the required Scheduled Monument Consent application to Historic England for the landscaping works which would bring the Heritage Asset back into the public realm.

DPP successfully obtained Scheduled Monument Consent for the landscaping works in June 2014. The Major Application for the student accommodation was approved by Members of the Planning Committee in July 2014. DPP continued aftercare work until scheme completion, through applications for amendments and planning conditions.
