DPP Manchester has secured planning approval for a foodstore led mixed-use scheme in Burton Upon Trent, Staffordshire.  The scheme, comprising a 7,000m2 foodstore, a secondary non-food retail unit, restaurant/takeaways with an ancillary petrol filling station, was submitted on behalf of Tesco Stores Ltd.

This application sought permission for an alternative form of retail development to a previously approved scheme on the site dating from 2011 although Tesco announced earlier this year that it would not be its intention to implement the revised scheme should permission be granted for it.

DPP Director John Francis, who was acting on behalf of the applicant, told East Staffordshire planning committee:
This is somewhat unique, in that the original application was granted to Tesco; and the current one has also been made in the name of Tesco but the business does not intend to implement the permission and instead it will look to  dispose of the site to enable it to be brought forward for development by another party.”
