Project Description

Commercial Offices and Event Space

Bowcliffe Hall, Bramham, Wetherby

Bayford & Co, owners of Bowcliffe Hall, a Grade II listed property in Wetherby, instructed DPP to lead the design team on heritage and planning issues to deliver an award-winning scheme.

The proposals needed to consider the heritage and architectural significance of the hall, whilst ensuring the scheme delivered additional commercial space, this included a new development within the grounds of the hall known as the ‘Blackburn Wing’ for use as a high-quality conferencing facility. The ‘Blackburn Wing’ development took note of the former owner’s historic associations with aviation and characterised this within the building’s design, which was of exceptional quality. Following a detailed heritage assessment, areas of the estate were identified for development including the refurbishment of a cricket pavilion and the conversion and extension of a vacant dwelling to provide additional office accommodation. Other works included the installation of a ground source heat pump, the relocation of the main car park, and the erection of new gates and pillars in order to provide an attractive arrival experience and restoration of the landscaped grounds.

Through establishing good working relationships from inception, to design development to application, the application was approved and works were completed in 2014.
